Setting up a polycarbonate greenhouse is easier than you think! However, taking the right steps from the start will save time and ensure durability. Follow these expert tips to assemble your greenhouse with confidence and avoid common mistakes.
1. Prepare the Ground Properly
Before starting, ensure the area is completely flat and level. Uneven ground can cause misalignment, making assembly more difficult and compromising stability.
2. Level the Frame Correctly
After preparing the ground, check that the entire frame is level in all directions. Otherwise, polycarbonate sheets may not overlap properly. This could create gaps and air pockets, making the structure more vulnerable to wind damage.
3. Anchor the Greenhouse Securely
To prevent movement, secure the T-shape anchors with cement. Additionally, in open and windy areas, reinforcing with bent rebar is highly recommended. For an alternative approach, assemble the greenhouse on a concrete floor, block foundation, or timber base, then secure it using L-shape brackets.
4. Install Polycarbonate Panels with Care
Each polycarbonate panel has a UV-protected side, which is clearly indicated on the protective film. Since both sides have a film, remove them carefully before installation, making sure not to mix up the sides. Furthermore, for long-term durability, properly sealing the edges will help prevent dust and moisture buildup.
5. Use Plastic Washers for Extra Stability
When securing the polycarbonate panels, place plastic washers at the front arch where sheets overlap and along the edges. To improve strength, drill two additional holes (using a 2.5-3mm drill bit) at the very front and last arch sections. If the greenhouse is in a high-wind area, secure the panels further by using galvanized metal strips at critical points.
6. Reinforce with Extra Washers and Screws
If there are leftover washers and screws, put them to good use by reinforcing weaker spots.
This small step will increase stability and extend the lifespan of your greenhouse.
